Majorana Representation in Quantum Optics SU(2) Interferometry and Uncertainty Relations

چکیده
The algebra of SU(2) is ubiquitous in physics, applicable both to the atomic spin states and the polarisation states of light. The method developed by Majorana and Schwinger to represent pure, symmetric spin-states of arbitrary value as a product of spin-1/2 states is a powerful tool that allows for a great conceptual and practical simplification. Foremost, it allows the representation of a qudit on the same geometry as a qubit, i.e., the Bloch sphere. An experimental implementation of the Majorana representation in the realm of quantum optics is presented. The technique allows the projection of arbitrary quantum states from a coherent state input. It is also shown that the method can be used to synthesise arbitrary interference patterns with unit visibility, and without resorting to quantum resources. In this context, it is argued that neither the shape nor the visibility of the interference pattern is a good measure of quantumness. It is only the measurement scheme that allows for the perceived quantum behaviour. The Majorana representation also proves useful in delineating uncertainty limits of states with a particular spin value. Issues with traditional uncertainty relations involving the SU(2) operators, such as trivial bounds for certain states and non-invariance, are thereby resolved with the presented pictorial solution.

Quantum measurement bounds beyond the uncertainty relations.
In quantum mechanics, the Heisenberg uncertainty relations and the Cramér-Rao inequalities typically limit the precision in the estimation of a parameter through the standard deviation of a conjugate observable. Here we extend these relations by giving a bound to the precision of a parameter in terms of the expectation value of the conjugate observable. This has both foundational and practical ...

We investigate the electronic transport through a single-level quantum-dot which is capacitively coupled to a charge-qubit. By employing the method of nonequilibrium Green's functions, we calculate the electric current through quantum dot at finite bias voltages. The Green's functions and self-energies of the system are calculated perturbatively and self-consistently to the second order of inte...

abstract Recently it has been suggested by A. M. Tsvelik that quantum S=1/2 an-tiferromagnet can be described by the Majorana fermions in an irreducible way and without any constraint. In contrast to this claim we shall show that this representation is highly reducible. It is a direct sum of four irreducible fundamental representations of su(2) algebra.

We study the phase sensitivity of SU(2) and SU(1,1) interferometers fed by two-mode field states which are intelligent states for Hermitian generators of the SU(2) and SU(1,1) groups, respectively. Intelligent states minimize uncertainty relations and this makes possible an essential reduction of the quantum noise in interferometers. Exact closed expressions for the minimum detectable phase shi...

he quantum theory of light predicts many interesting effects that may seem counterintuitive or even impossible from a classical point of view. Several effects of this kind have been investigated at the Applied Physics Laboratory, including a new kind of interferometry, the cancellation of dispersion between two distant media, and a new type of phase associated with the electromagnetic field. So...
